That Troubled Kid

“Mercedes…”

He echoed behind her, as the beautiful elven Queen sat delicately on her chair, reading.

“Mercedesss….”
“What?!” She finally replied, slamming down the book, annoyed.
“I’m thirsty….” Demon slayer whined as he stared longingly at her neck, wondering what would elven blood taste like. “Go ask cannon shooter” she waved him off before she continued reading her book. “He’s not home…” He whined yet again.

She could take it no more, slammed down her book and stuttered, “F-Fine! Just one bite!” At that response, Demon Slayer immediately perked up and smiled, showing a set of sharp, canine teeth. As he approached her, he went straight for her neck and bit it, blood immediately gushing out. “AAAHHHH!” Screamed the Queen, “Not the neck you idiot!” She quickly yanked herself away from him, covering her wound with her hand. “Anywhere but the neck! Why did you have to go there?!” She scolded him.

Puzzled, before Demon Slayer could even utter a word, she slapped him so hard he flew right out of the hut aallll the way to the Temple of Time!

At the Temple of Time, Lyka, Dodo and Lilynouch were having an intense game of black jack. Dodo and Lilynouch stared hard at their cards, hoping some miracle would befall on them, but to no avail, “checkmate” Lyka announced proudly, before slapping her cards down on the table; 4 Aces. Both girls stared at the cards in disbelief, wondering if Lyka bribed Phantom or something. “Why do you always get Royal flush?!” Lilynouch pouted, crossing her arms as the floating ice crystals around her vibrated softly. “I don’t know. I just do it. ” Lyka replied proudly, flipping her hair at both girls before walking off triumphantly.

Just then, the girls spotted something flying across the sky at high speed. “What on Aion is that?!!” Dodo yelled in pure disbelief before it came closer, and closer to them. “Hold on I think it looks like D-” before Lyka could finish, Demon Slayer fell flat right on top of all 3 girls with a loud thud.

He quickly got up, slightly dazed, to find the three girls all lying in a heap on the floor. He widened his eyes, knowing that they would probably slaughter him when they woke up. He swiftly spread out his Demon Wings and was about to take flight from the girls, he heard, “DEMON SLAYERRR!!!” That voice was all too familiar. Lyka. “U-Uh, h-hey L-L-Lyka!” He stuttered, sweating. “What the hell just happened?!” She demanded, as she slowly got up, her horns glowing a dark, purple shade. “GAH!” He exclaimed in terror as she charged towards him like a bull in full speed. Before he knew it, she threw him off the grounds of the Temple Of Time and back to Mercedes’s hut.

CRASH! As Demon Slayer flew right through that very same hole in the roof he created when he was thrown out by Mercedes, he crashed onto her and overthrew her table and tea, and she screeched in shock. That was when they found Demon Slayer lying right on top of Mercedes, as her face was barely inches from his, both panting. There was a momentary pause before she screamed yet again, piercing poor Demon Slayer’s ears as he quickly flapped his wings and flew right out of the hut, frightened.

Not knowing where he was flying, he crashed into a few shrubs in the forest nearly and got entangled with the branches. “Why does everyone hate me…” He sighed.
Back at the now-destroyed hut, Mercedes slowly got up to take in what just happened. That was when she found cannon shooter standing at the doorstep, smirking at her. “Speechless?” He started, before bursting to laughter. “It’s NOT funny!” She yelled, grabbing her Bowguns and blasted, “Piercing Storm!!” A hoard of long, spinning spiritual arrows flew towards cannon shooter at lightning speed and struck right at him, throwing him back, out onto the grass. Though semi-conscious, he was still chuckling, chuckling till he fainted due to breathlessness.

Chapter 2~

The full moon was out up in the starry night sky, illuminating the dark forests. Demon Slayer lingered around the stream, fireflies roaming everywhere around the bank, lighting up the stream and giving it a spectacular glow under the moonlight. It was a beautiful, cooling night. He sat by the bank as the fireflies hovered round him, like they were attracted to him. “What a lovely night…” He mused. “Indeed. ” he heard a voice behind him, as he spun around, he found Phantom leaning onto one of the tree trunks with that infamous, charming smile of his. “What brings you out in this lovely night of June?” Phantom asked, twirling a rose on his fingertips.

Demon slayer returned his gaze to the river, before replying, “Nothing wrong with appreciating nature.” He felt Phantom approach him and plop himself next to him by the bank. There was a momentary silence, only the nighttime crickets and the sound of gushing water could be heard. “You look troubled.” Phantom finally asked after a while. “Oh do I?” Demon questioned himself. Furrowing his brow, Phantom continued, “Would you like to talk about it over a cup of tea in Lumiere? The view there is spectacular at night” he smiled. Demon simply shook his head, “no thanks” he mumbled.

Phantom frowned. Soon after, he got up saying, “Well, I’m just trying to help here. I seldom bother about others’ welfare or problems but you looked particularly troubled today, but it looks like you’d prefer solitude. Suit yourself. ” after which he whizzed away in a flutter of cards silently.

After a while, Demon got up and decide to wander around for a while. He was not one but tired at all. Demons rarely sleep or get tired even. However, just as he reached a huge clearing, a massive blast of wind blew in his direction, pulling him off the ground! He tumbled backwards but got up swiftly to find any enemies; no one. Puzzled, he raised his guard, scepter in one arm, force shield in the other. That was when suddenly, a dark force hit him violently and was forced to defend himself with his demonic shield. He stumbled back a little, unwavered, when the force hit him again. This time, he had no time to defend and it hit him fully in the gut.

Demon gritted his teeth as he got up, demonic vision scanning the whole clearing for abnormalities. He definitely sensed a strong force around. “Show yourself and face me, coward!” He yelled out. After a brief pause, someone darkly materialised in front of him, his outside overflowing with dark energy. His hood was up, covering all features except his mouth and cheeks; which seemed as if there were intricate carvings or patterns on them. The dark force circled around the stranger as he smiled a crooked smile, before raising a gloves hand. The ground around Demon opened a huge black hole, as hundreds of dark, clawing hands emerged from the hole and tried to grab him.

Demon tried to fight them off by swinging his scepter at them, but it just passed through them like water. Panicking, he shouted “Vengeance!” However, the buff had no effect on the attack. More and more hands kept grabbing him and dragging down into the abyss. “Chaos lock!” He yelled yet again, but nothing. He widened his eyes, completely shocked speechless. If those 2 attacks could not work, he would not be sure the other will. Slowly, he felt all his demonic energy being sucked out of his body, feeling weaker and wear as the claws pulled him further down. Exhausted, he dropped his scepter. He was hopeless. “Why are you doing this?!” He cried, but the stranger said nothing. “Why me!?” He demanded, yet no response. He can’t die now. Not when he had not gotten his revenge on the black Mage yet.

*is there really no escape now?* Demon thought to himself, as he slowly let the hands pull him further down…

“Ishtar’s Ring!!” A female voice rang behind him before hoards of spiritual arrows flashed past him in lightning speed, annihilating the stranger. However, the stranger did not really get hit. He completely disappeared, leaving the cloak on the ground. Exhausted and relieved, he saw Mercedes rushing towards him with a worried expression on her Elfen face, asking “Are you okay?! Demon Slayer??” He voice gradually became softer and more fuzzy or cloudy, as he slowly closed his eyes, passing out.

Chapter 3~

The next morning, Demon Slayer woke up to find himself in a familiar surrounding; Mercedes’s hut. He slowly got up, his head throbbing with a terrible headache. The first thought that came to his mind, *who was that weird stranger? What did he want with me…?* all the questions started flooding in, but were all flushed away as he spotted Mercedes outside, not in her usual battle armour, but in a lovely sky blue dress, tending to her garden. As he stood by the door, Mercedes noticed him, and quickly hurried up to him to ask “Are you alright?!” He nodded slowly before watching her sigh in immense relief. “How did you find me?” He asked. She blushed tremendously before stuttering, “I-I was just l-looking f-for you… I mean, it was real cold and dark out in the forest at night y’know” she looked away biting her bottom lip. He smiled, one of those rare smiles Demon Slayer displayed once in a while.

To quickly change the topic, Mercedes perked up, saying “Phantom came earlier this morning. It was to discuss about the strange people in hoods- the one who tried to attack you last night. He did some spying and found out they were from this unknown island… Called “Masteria…” She twitched at the thought of it. However, Demon Slayer widened his eyes. He knew that area. He kept it a secret his whole life.

It was his birthplace.

“Any idea what’s on this strange island of Masteria?” Mercedes asked thoughtfully. Sweating, he pulled his collar and shook his head. “I see…” She mumbled, as if her hopes were somehow crushed of not knowing anything of this strange, unheard island. “When you’re well enough, we have to go investigate that island. Phantom is going to give us more info later on.” She continued, as if in deep thought. Demon just nodded nonchalantly, contemplating whether he should just play along or not.

The next day, they moved out of the hut and proceeded to Leafre, the only supposed place that could be accessed from that strange island. Phantom met them there at the port, as he said, “Basically these weird hooded people have slightly darker skin, different face tattoos and black wings at the back. They use some sort of dark magic and the island, Masteria, is populated with this species. Luminous has instructed you two to investigate that place, and hopefully make some connections there with a fake identity. Well then, good luck. ” he smiled politely, as he disappeared in a flash of cards.

“What help he is” Mercedes retorted as she proceeded to the small airship Phantom provided them with. Demon Slayer just kept silent. Soon after, they left the port and ascended into the misty morning air. It was incredibly foggy that morning, making visibility extremely low and more susceptible to Balrog attacks.

After an hour of awkward silence and waiting, they saw a tiny island in the distance. As they got closer, they saw several things flying around the island, only to find out that these creatures were actually flying with real wings! Mercedes widened her eyes at the sight she’s never seen before. The airship landed at a deserted area before completely disappearing in a flush of cards.

Mercedes quickly hopped out, looking as if she was excited and interested to venture this new place known as Masteria. Demon slayer shifted uncomfortable as he followed closely behind. Before they reached civilisation, the trekked through some dense woods and finally reach edthe central area, the city. They put on their disguises – demon slayer a Vendetta mask, Mercedes a Targa Hat. As they entered the city, they got strange looks from the people, but nobody said or did anything, so they continued on anyway.

As Mercedes closely observed their behaviour and features from afar in her disguise, she realised they looked incredibly Similiar to Demon slayer. They had wings, sharp canine teeth, face tattoos and mostly drank blood. All of which matches Demon Slayer. They spoke the same language, and it seemed as normal as a normal city on Victoria island. They soon settled down at a cafe, as the waiter gave them each the menu, staring at their weird disguises. They got disapproving and judging looks from the citizens, as well as whispering and pointing of fingers, but they just concentrated on the mission instead.

When Mercedes took a look at the menu, she widened her eyes in surprise as the food there were all meat. Strange meat cooked strangely from strange animals. Drinks were blood. In her opinion, completely inedible to her. Unable to order anything, Demon simply ordered a glass of blood. As they waited for their ‘beverage’, she looked around nervously. The people looked so frightening and creepy to her, it gave her the chills. On the other hand, Demon was feeling strangely more comfortable, and some sort of sense of belonging here, but he was more worried about how he would break the news to her.

Their drink came and Demon took small sips of it. He perked up at the taste, raised his eyebrows and have a low whistle. “This is some quality blood I must say!” He commented rather loudly. Overhearing, that same waiter approached their table and began to explain “yes indeed! Taken fresh from a Taurospear in the caves of Masteria!” He declared proudly. Demon widened his eyes in amazement, before questioning, “whoa, you have Taurospears roaming freely around here?!”
“Indeed! They are plentiful in our caves. ”
Demon nodded thoughtfully before thanking the waiter as he whisked away to another customer’s help. “What was all that about?!” Mercedes hissed under her disguise hat. “What, a little trivia or culture won’t hurt!” Demon replied, slightly annoyed. She simply pouted as Demon continued to happily sip his quality blood.

There was a short pause before Mercedes just declared bluntly, staring straight at Demon Slayer in the eyes, “These are demons right ” she glared at him, he felt bad and nodded guiltily. She scoffed, “Hmph, I noticed it ever since I stepped into this town. It’s so obvious!” In fact, Demon wasn’t that surprised she guessed it. Demons were quite different yet unique in their culture and features compared to humans or elves. As Demon called for the bill, the waiter responded almost immediately to take the bill. As he calculated it, he asked “I haven’t seem you around here. Where are you from?”
“Um… Leafre. ” he replied as casually as possible.
“Ah, I see! It’s odd how some demons like migrating there. I mean, the halfringers look so small and vulnerable and we even eat them here- I just wonder why they would rather live in peace with them. “He chuckled as he passed the bill the Demon.
“Ah well, I don’t think Leafre’s that safe either. Just 100 years ago, one demon family migrated there, never came back. Why? That damned black Mage just happened to attack Leafre then and 2 of them were found dead there. The last one went missing I think. Probably dead too. Scary, huh? Tragic man. “He continued as casually as possible, but Demon Slayer looked down and not one bit pleased at all.

“Thank you for coming! Have a nice day!” The waiter finally said before going away.

Chapter 4~

Demon Slayer sat there in forlorn, all those horrific memories coming back. He did not want to be reminded. “You were raised in this city…?!” Mercedes broke the silence, hopefully trying to lift the mood. He nodded slightly. “Well that’s interesting! Then you should be quite familiar with this place, no?” She continued asking as casually as possible.

“Not exactly- my mother was forced to bring us to Leafre because of my father. And that time Damien was not even born yet. So I don’t know. ” Demon slayer replied lifelessly. Mercedes sighed. “Like it or not, we have to continue with this mission. Come on. ” she got up and helped him up.

They walked along the streets of Masteria, and a tremendous number of beggars kept grabbing their feet and stopping them for money or food. Mercedes was extremely creeped out and disgusted by their behaviour. One begger especially blocked their way and actually demanded for money. “No” Demon replied firmly, before grabbing Mercedes’s arm and going through an alternate route. However, this one was persistent. He followed after them and blocked their way again. He kept pleading for money, he even tried to grab Mercedes’s arm. However, Demon Slayer snapped.

“STOP. ” He yelled at the beggar, his fists balled up. “We won’t give you any money or food and stop pestering us or I’ll have to go to extreme matters. ” just as Demon was about to walk past him with Mercedes following closely behind, the begger murmured, “heh. I remember years ago I had a friend with the exact same personality as you, and even looks just like you. Hot-tempered fella” he chuckled. Demon simply rolled his eyes and continued on. “You remind me so much of him. He had a family. He worked so hard to support them. He helped support me in life. He was a great man who did great things. I’d never forget him. So the moment I saw you, I somehow instantly saw him in you, and I just… I can’t let go man. Please. ” now he just sat there, cigarette in mouth, his wrinkly wings sagging greatly.

Demon Slayer stopped. The beggar continued. “In fact, he brought me home before. He provided me food, shelter, and even helped me find a job. I was so grateful for him. During those times, I got to know his family. They were really pleasant, his wife, and his kid.” He gave a lifeless, breathless laugh. “His wife was beautiful. Everyday she’d read to her kid, sing to him lullabies to sleep… She’d bring him out to hunt etcetera, they looked so happy together. But the kid never liked me. ” he laughed a bit better this time, his dull, dilute and lifeless eyes stared at the dusty ground.

“However, during the time he helped me, he made many enemies. From gangs and such. He soon fell into debt and came back torn and tattered everyday. Soon, these gang of demons started spraying blood at the door, throwing stones in windows all that. It was becoming so bad, that one day when the kid was alone at home, they barged in and tried to take the kid. But oh boy, he ain’t no ordinary kid. I don’t know what his parents had been teaching him or anything, I was just hiding in the closet when they came. When they came to kidnap him, he had a freaking Demon Scepter with him at his age! He took it, yelled something like ‘infernal concussion’ or something like that, soon, they were flung into the air like feathers by some dark force and spikes speared out of their chests, penetrating straight through them without fail. It literally rained blood all over and the scene was horrible. When his mother came home, she got such a shock of her life. She claimed she taught nothing of that sort! We were all puzzled indeed, what, he was only like, 7!? But anyway, one day, my friend’s wife received a message from him saying to flee to Leafre and never come back to Masteria again. They were so shocked, but did so. He promised he’d be back. But in the end, he never came back. I stayed at Masteria, and well, my story ends here. ” the old beggar gave a long, pained sigh.

“After which we heard news that kid became the new commander of the black Mage. I wasn’t surprised, after seeing that horrifying attack and all. He was quite a dark kid anyway. Well then I heard the black Mage attacked Leafre, and never heard from his mother again. I wondered why he would wanna kill his own mom, she did nothing wrong! But as I said, he looked like a troubled kid anyway. I was horrified. After that, I never heard from him again till now. ” the beggar sighed yet again.

After which he turned around the face Demon Slayer, who was now on his knees. The beggar continued; “I was just wondering… You’re that kid, aren’t you? ” there was no response, just a soft, controlled sobbing. The beggar looked at him, eyes full of pity and sadness. Mercedes looked at him incredulously as if he was some kind of god or something. “I’ll never understand you anyways. Why or how you learnt that killer move, why you joined the black Mage, why you killed your own family… Like I said, you were a troubled kid. ” he gave a sly smile, and discreetly crawled away.

Demon Slayer sat there, with his tear-streaked face, questions popping out: why? Why? Why?!
He remained there and kept asking himself those same questions. It never escaped his mind. It couldn’t.

He was a troubled kid, after all.

Something I scribbled out about 3 years ago ahahah

Ikedaya Incident

Gripping the bleeding, broken shoulder and in pain, Kashuu Kiyomitsu trudged along the corpse-laden floor of Ikedaya Inn. The battle was won by the Shinsengumi, but at a great cost. His master, Okita Souji, had fallen unconscious nearing the end of the battle, but was thankfully saved by a fellow comrade, who was bleeding lightly at the forehead.

“Kashuu!” Yamatonokami Yasusada rushed towards the limping sword as soon as he spotted the familiar red scarf dangling around his neck. “Oh dear, that doesn’t look good. Let me take a look!” Yasusada grabbed his good shoulder and turned him to face the concerned friend.

“It’s just broken. I’ll get fixed up once we return. We’ve won but our master isn’t in too good a shape.” Kashuu brushed him away and continued limping after Okita who was being supported by his comrade. “Are you sure…” Yasusada prodded but Kashuu ignored him, his mind currently too preoccupied with thoughts of his injured master.

Back at the headquarters, Yasusada waited impatiently outside Okita’s room. Both he and Kashuu were currently being treated by a doctor at the moment. He honestly hoped the both of them would be alright, since he got off with minimal injuries. However, the thought of Kashuu’s shoulder nagged at him. The wound didn’t exactly look very superficial, like a broken bone or a cut. It looked like there was more to that during the few brief seconds that yasusada managed to glimpse at as he tried to treat Kashuu back at the Ikedaya Inn.

After what felt like an eternity, the door behind slid open and the doctor emerged from it. Yasusada shot up from where he was sitting at the veranda, his face evident with worry. Sensing what he was about to say, the doctor said “Your master is alright. He just needs some rest and he’ll be on his way to a speedy recovery.” Yasusada heaved a sigh of relief. But there was still one more thing he was worried about. The doctor continued, “However, your friend here, Kashuu, things don’t look so good for him. His right shoulder has been rendered permanently paralysed. We were too late. The tip of the sword had been broken off and is deemed unrepairable by smiths. I’m sorry.” He put a hand on Yasuada’s shoulder, before bowing slightly and shuffling away.

There was a deep, sinking feeling within Yasusada. He stood there rooted to the ground, unmoving. He somehow could not bring himself to meet his old friend in the room right in front of him. Kashuu could no longer be of use to Okita anymore. He is useless. He will be discarded… he would not be loved by Okita anymore… Unpleasant thoughts swirled around Yasusada’s head like a tornado. Kashuu probably felt worse. He felt like he should leave Kashuu be first. But at the same time, he wanted to be there for his old friend, his old partner, his fellow sword.

“Ahh, such a tragedy is unavoidable in battles, isn’t it?” A voice came from within a room. It couldn’t have been anyone other than Kashuu.

Slightly hesitant, Yasusada stepped into the room and slid the door close behind him.

“Please help me tell our master… Okita… tell him I’m sorry that I failed him. I let him fall in battle, and I fell myself, due to my carelessness… please, yasusada…” Kashuu looked away from Yasusada who was kneeled beside him. He seemed immensely interested in the small pail of water beside his quilt. Yasusada said nothing.

“Okita… has loved me. No matter how ugly I might be, no matter which slum I came from, he loved me… at least I hope he did. Then I can finally rest in peace.” Kashuu’s voice quivered, seemingly choking slightly on his tears.

Yasusada did not know what to say. He was devastated, from the bottom of his heart. He wished he could join Kashuu. But he knew he’d betray his master if he did so, and his master’s wellbeing was as every bit significant to him as Kashuu’s. He could see that Kashuu was trying very hard to hold back from breaking down. He was a proud sword, and loved to prove his worth to Okita. He hoped to serve Okita till his dying breathe. Little did he know that the situation would be reversed.

Yasusada shared the same thoughts. Battles would never be the same again without Kashuu. Without him boasting about his freshly painted nails, his conditioned hair, his killer heels. Kashuu did not deserve this. He just wanted to be loved.

——- END ——-

Ahh it’s been so long since I churned out something substantial. My writing skills have turned rusty. Or gone to shit, maybe. Evidently, I have fallen into sword boi hell. And obviously, I have taken a liking to the shinsengumi swords, particularly Okita’s. No coincidence there, nope.

Ok maybe yes. But yes it’s been too long. So please overlook the horrible grammar or extremely boring sentences. I try.

Betrayal

Freud’s study was old and dilapidated. After all, it had been centuries since the Mage had passed away peacefully from old age, after travelling around the world telling the story of the heroes who once defeated the Black Mage and sealed him up, bringing peace to Maple World once more.

As Phantom crept in silently, he briefly glanced over the old books and scrolls in his countless bookshelves, with spider webs growing between them. He remembered when Freud tried to convince him to read more and gain more knowledge of the world.

Phantom was more interested in exploring it himself than reading it in some boring old book.

His finger trailed along the study table, now covered with a huge sheet of dust. He looked at his finger, all black with dirt, before blowing it off with dust particles floating everywhere.

Forlorn crept through Phantom’s emotions as he still remembered Freud sitting on that same wooden chair, either writing something with his quill pen or reading some book of some sort. He would always sneak in to disturb Freud from his studies and drag him out into the open to go exploring together.

Those were the days.

Now, the chair remained there, empty and covered with even more dust and webs. He sighed.

Freud’s study had never been of much interest to Phantom, as the sight of books disgusted the thief. Unlike Freud, he never liked reading. Too much effort.

However, Phantom decided to take a
look at his vast collection of books and info just for the sake of it, and to find out what kind of hidden power or knowledge these books held between their lines and what interested Freud so much such that he could spend days in his study without remembering to eat or even get out of his chair to stretch.

Endless wonder filled Phantom as he slowly browsed through the books, page by page.

Until, one black rolled up scrolled with golden rims caught his eye. It was tied with high quality red ribbon strips and was slightly torn. As curiosity washed over the thief, he slid his hand into a small drawer underneath the table and gently took the scroll out, carefully untying and ribbon and unravelling the black paper.

The words written on it were deathly white, but still as clear as it probably was centuries ago.

“Good job. Aria is dead. “, it had read.

Phantom stared at the paper, his mouth hanging open. Wait a minute.

Good job?

A million questions flooded the thief’s
head as he spent minutes trying to comprehend those 5 words, those 5 words which confused him so much. He squinted at the paper to make sure he didn’t misread it, and he sure didn’t. It was written there clearly, right in the middle of the black paper, with no signature, whatever.

“This…” Phantom was at a loss for words. Who was praising Freud for a good job? What did he do? What has Aria got to do with him?!

He then rolled up the paper and brought it back with him to the Lumiere for Colette and Christine to investigate on it.

—-

About a week later, Colette delivered the news to him.

“Master, this paper emanates dark matter from it. According to Demon Slayer, who once worked with the Black Mage before, confirmed that the dark matter originated from the Black Mage himself, and that he distributes it among his fellow Commanders.”

“It is confirmed that the paper was sent from the Black Mage or one of his commanders. Secondly, since the paper was found in Freud’s study, there is a 90% chance that it belongs to him, and thus is highly likely for the scroll to be addressed Freud. ”

“Thirdly, if the Black Mage or his commanders are praising Freud, he must have done something to aid them in the battle centuries ago, and the fact that they included that Aria was dead in the letter showed that he had something to do with her death. ”

“This only means that Freud aided the Black Mage and his commanders in the invasion of Erev centuries ago, resulting to Aria’s death- the main goal of the invasion. Since Freud was with the rest of the heroes during that time frame, it is highly likely that he was the strategist and the planner for the invasion of Erev, eventually leading the Aria’s death. In short, Freud was working with the Black Mage and indirectly killed Aria. ”

“This concludes my research, master-”

Before Colette finished, Phantom had already disappeared, along with the scroll.

—-

The Aurora was a quiet, serene place. Prefect for research, concentration and peace of mind during turbulent times.

Luminous sat in one of the studies, conducting his Light magic research again, finding ways to conquer his dark side and reach equilibrium.

Just as Luminous was about to reach to a conclusion, Phantom barged in noisily- very unlike him indeed- and slammed down a piece of black paper right in front of him.

“What are you doing–” Luminous sternly asked, before noticing Phantom’s unusually distressed face and vigorous panting.

Phantom usually isn’t that much of an urgent person… Unless something is really wrong.

“What-” Luminous started, but Phantom interrupted- “Read. The paper. ”

As Luminous took up the paper to read, his eyes widened.

“Phantom, this is not the time to be joking around-”

Luminous. I am serious”

This was really very unlike the thief, being serious. Luminous took a look at the paper again. “Explain this. ”

As Phantom had repeated Colette’s report to Luminous, his face became more and more contorted, cringing at the last sentence- “Freud killed Aria.”

“Phantom. You can’t just jump to conclusions like that. You-”

LUMINOUS! My intel is extremely reliable. I-I picked it up from Freud’s study myself. I spent a week researching and analysing this stupid piece of paper. What other conclusions are there to make?! Is it not obvious enough?!”
Phantom exploded in a rage, his voice cracking halfway through.

There was a long silence, before Luminous said, “B-But Phantom. Freud wouldn’t-”

“He wouldn’t. But evidence doesn’t lie. ” Phantom waved the piece of paper in front of Luminous, revealing the obvious.

Luminous gulped.

Freud, the leader of the heroes, the very first Dragon Master, Luminous’s good friend, aiding the Black Mage? That sounded so absurd even the thought of a man giving birth to a baby sounded less ridiculous than this.

For once, the light Mage was at a loss for words. Phantom stared at him, looking as if he was on the verge of a breakdown.

After a moment, he spoke. “The other heroes need to see this. ”

—-

Upon reaching Elluel, Mercedes was shell-shocked. So shocked in fact, that she absolutely denied even the slightest possibility of Freud working for the Black Mage.

She probably knew it was true. She probably knew there was no way to avoid the truth. She retreated into her room that day and refused to come out.

At Rien, Aran just stared at them in disbelief. Like Mercedes, she refused to accept it. She threw them out of Rien for doubting Freud and didn’t want to see their faces again.

Who would’ve thought, the leader of the Heroes- destined to fight and defeat the Black Mage- was working with the Black Mage himself all this time and totally got away with it?

That’s Freud for you.

—-

“Phantom, we cannot leave this matter be. Even though he’s dead, we must know the truth!” Luminous said as they left Rien, unsure of where to head next.

Phantom looked pretty much defeated the whole time and just shrugged. “I don’t understand either… Why… Would he do this?” He asked after a while, looking up at the clear blue sky.

Luminous tried to sound confident. “Let’s go to Freud’s study and see if we can find anymore evidence. ” Phantom shrugged and followed behind Luminous.

Once your leader and long time friend has betrayed you, how messed up could one get? It’s a terrible feeling, and that was exactly how Phantom felt that instant.

Night fell as Phantom and Luminous reached Freud’s study in the depths of the Minar Forest.

Just as they were about to step into the study, Phantom abruptly turned around and whipped out his cane. “Reveal yourself, coward!” He yelled.

Luminous, detecting the prescience of another person, also brought out his shining rod and got into battle stance.

For a brief moment, there was only silence in the forest, before the bushes nearby stirred a little, and Phantom immediately shroud walked towards it and pounced on the person, his cane raised into a dagger.

The person faced down with his good still on. He chuckled.

“I guess your skills never depleted, even after waking from the curse, eh?”

The voice said, sounding strangely very familiar to both of them.

Phantom slowly got up, without releasing his grip on the person and ripped down his hood.

Just as his face was revealed, Phantom’s eyes widened and he immediately dropped his cane.

Luminous simply gaped, frozen in his battle stance and utterly stunned.

“F-Freud…” Phantom squeaked.

Freud sighed. He picked up his staff which was lying around nearby and dusted himself. “So much for welcoming an old friend, huh. ” he sounded intentionally sad.

Luminous was the first to recover, though.

“I thought you… Died. ”

“I didn’t. ” the Dragon Master replied flatly. “Afrien protected me and I managed to escape the curse. Eventually I lived my life till the end after that and died peacefully… Or that’s what you guys thought happened. ”

“As you have already found out- yes. I am working for the Black Mage. ” At that very moment, in the blink of an eye- Phantom grabbed his cane and gripped Freud’s collar violently, shoving him close to his face, which looked as if he were in a conflict of emotions- Sadness and betrayal.

“So what if I killed Aria?”

The Mage casually said, unaffected by Phantom’s actions. His face showered no signs of regret whatsoever. Just amusement.

“Who are you?” Phantom demanded, his teeth gritted.

“I am Freud, Phantom. Release me. ”

Freud calmly replied, with a tone of threat in his voice.

“Freud wouldn’t do this. He would never have worked for the black Mage, and he would never have murdered the Queen of Maple World. ”

“Well, I did. ” Freud replied as-a-matter-of-factly. “Aria is dead. And so is the Freud that you once knew centuries ago. ”

At that, Phantom released his grip and looked down, his curly hair covering his purple eyes.

“Why?” Luminous asked, his face showing hurt and sadness.

Freud laughed.

“Good luck trying to convince the others of this. I don’t have time to waste on you. ” Freud picked up the black scroll which Phantom had so conveniently dropped, snapped his fingers, and teleported away.

Which left the 2 heroes standing there wordlessly, unsure of what to do next.

To be continued?????? Gosh I don’t even know man.

This was based on an AU that Noct came up with! ^ ^

Love is in the air ;)

“Aria!” Phantom yelled over the gushing of the strong winds. “Ever felt this free before?”

The Queen stood right by the edge of the cliffs of Mu Lung, taking in the breathtaking scenery ahead and bracing the cool, mountain winds as they whipped her silly blond hair all over Phantom’s face, all the while as he held her hips. “Goodness, Phantom! ” she yelled back, her eyes close to tears. “I’ve never been more alive!”

The pair started laughing like there was no tomorrow as Phantom wrapped his arms around her, and whisked her off in a flurry of cards, back to the Lumiere.
Phantom wished moments like these could last forever. These memories he treasured so dearly, were never to be forgotten, as long as he lived, as long as he and Aria were alive and happy.

She stood by the deck of the Lumiere, admiring the huge full moon that night. He approached her, and put his fingers on her chin. He tilted her head up to face him.

She did not know what to expect. As high her status of a Queen might be, she was still young. Young and ambitious, like any other adventurer out there.

Their lips parted as they kissed passionately under the full moon, making full use of the romantic atmosphere, before parting again. Aria was blushing madly.

“You’ve never been more beautiful tonight, my love. ” Phantom winked. With that sly smile of his, he raised his cane and before she knew it, she was whisked back to her bedroom, alone. Again.

A single card remained on her bedside table. She glanced at it, smiling slightly at that familiar symbol, and the memory of the thief, the kiss, the moonlight, still fresh in her adolescent little mind.

Chapter 4

Back at the underground shelters, healers were rushing around here and there, attending to the wounded.

Claudine’s arm was wrapped in a cast as she ordered the various resistance members around, keeping order within the citizens.

Outside, a burnt-down Edelstein was left behind. Resistance members were searching all over the rubble and ashes for any trapped survivors. Luka, a battle mage, and Aidan, a mechanic, stood watch outside the hideout portal. The evening was drawing near, and no trapped citizens were found.

Far away in the outskirts of Edelstein at the Rocky Mountains and Mines, a small elf wondered about, her dual Bowguns hanging conveniently at her belt. She sighed as she stopped over at one boulder, pulling down her hood and looking into the distance.

“Why does Edelstein choose to leave all this barren land empty? It’s so densely populated, yet none of this land is being utilised for it’s population growth! ”

Shaking her head, Mercedes carried on, the evening sun shining brightly upon her fair elfen skin.

“I wonder where Phantom and Luminous are… Aran would be completely clueless and powerless, and Freud…” She chose not to continue as she looked down.

She walked past a huge pile of rubble, remarking, “An avalanche must’ve occurred recently. How dangerous. ” she trudged on, before a spark of light distracted her.

Curious, she approached the rubble, and underneath a few small rocks, she discovered a golden locket with exquisite patterns on it. It gleamed under the setting sun as she couldn’t help but open it.

Inside was a picture of a beautiful woman with long, wavy brunette hair, smiling pleasantly alongside with a boy beside her. He had bright red hair, a cheeky smile plastered on his face. She realised they looked very familiar…

Then she remembered.

Leafre was in flames, with black wings soldiers terrorising the place and burning it down mercilessly. Humans and Halfringers alike were screaming and scattering around madly as black wings soldiers slaughtered every citizen in their path. It was utter chaos.

Mercedes and the other 4 heroes were on their way to the Temple of Time to face the Black Mage. Mercedes glided past all the dead bodies scattered on the ground, blood flooding the streets.

She looked away and covered her nose. She could not bear the sight and smell of dead bodies.

Nearby, there was a small little hut which was on fire. A woman was inside, screaming for help. A small boy was standing outside, completely at a loss of what to do. “Help! Somebody help, my mother is in there! Anybody!!” The poor boy yelled, as tears streamed down his face, his voice cracking. “MOM!!” He cried, kneeling down, rubbing his face.

Mercedes then quickly glided over to save the woman, but by the time she reached the hut, it had collapsed completely from the inside, the woman’s pleading screams still echoing in her head, as her son knelt outside, wailing helplessly. Upon witnessing the scene, Mercedes couldn’t help but stand there helplessly, watching the hut burn down. Tearing, she wanted to help the boy somehow, but he then got up, and ran off into the forest.

Guilt washed over her as she continued her journey to the Temple of Time, trying to get the gruesome scene out of her head.

Covering her mouth, Mercedes finally remembered : Demon Slayer’s family… If his locket was lying somewhere around here, he might be nearby.

Believing that he must’ve been caught up in the avalanche, she started digging at the smaller boulders. As she ripped the rocks out, she couldn’t help but think of all the times she treated Demon Slayer like a stranger when he joined the resistance.

She spoke to him rudely though he helped her out, she ignored him and refused his help several times. She refused to believe why Demon Slayer had left the black Mage. She never liked him, or bothered to find out why… But something inside her made her think otherwise…

The moment she saw that locket, she was shocked and speechless. She didn’t realise how badly she treated him till now, when she saw the truth herself. That very same guilt that she felt that day 100 years ago started coming back that moment again, and it took all of her pride not to break down at that moment.

After an hour of digging, she found an arm sticking out on of the huge boulders. She recognised it as demon slayer’s and started digging even harder then.

Night had finally fallen and she uncovered Demon Slayer’s body from the rubble. His wings were badly torn and damaged, and Mercedes needed to head to Edelstein as quickly as possible. She carefully lay his body down, held her fingers to her lips and whistled a certain tune.

Within seconds, a Pegasus had flown over right to her side, grunting softly. “What is it you need, my lady? ” he asked curtly.

“Pegasus, I will need you to bring us to Edelstein as quickly as possible, please. ” she replied urgently, as she lugged his body on the horse. He grunted slightly as he regained his balance. Mercedes then hopped on, and they flew into the night sky, the full moon shining brightly upon them.

—-

Dawn was breaking and the bright sun began to rise over the horizon, sunlight spilling over the ruins of Edelstein.

Luka and Aidan were still guarding the entrance, and Aidan was nodding off. “Oi Aidan, stop slacking off. ” Luka chided him as he punched him gently at the side, causing him to jerk awake.

“Shush Luka, I was having a good dream. ” he retorted, shifting his position.

“I don’t care, you better do your job well, slacker. ”

“Hey, it’s not like anyone else would wanna attack a run-down city anymore, right?”

“Touchwood!!” Luka yelled as he hit Aidan even harder this time, as he flinched and rubbed his arm, pouting.

“Don’t say such things right here and now, you dumbass!” Luka scolded.

“But–” as Aidan protested, Luka spotted something appearing in the distance and raised his hand, signalling for Aidan to shut up. He got the message and both guards squinted hard at the darkness.

Luka raised his staff and Aidan got his control panel ready. As the figures got bigger, they realised it was no intruder.

“Holy–” Aidan started, before Luka slapped him and ran towards the panting Pegasus, addressing the woman beside it. “Lady Mercedes! ”

“Attend to him first he needs medical attention!” She ordered, before Luka took his gaze off her and was taken aback by DemonSslayer laying unconscious there. He nodded silently before heaving the body onto himself and dashing back into the hideout.

Aidan rushed towards Mercedes, addressed her and added, “Miss, please follow me to meet our Resistance leader, Claudine. ” she nodded gravely and both then disappeared behind the portal into the hideout.

The Troubled Thief #3

Chapter 3

Houses were on fire, people scrambling everywhere and screaming for help. Others lost on the burning streets, crying for loved ones. It was utter chaos…

“BELLE! BRIGHTON? CHECKY! ANYONE!” Claudine screamed amongst pandemonium as she got pushed and shoved from every direction by frightened civilians.

She quickly rushed towards the hideout with a trail of blood behind her, trying to bear with the excruciating burning pain in her left arm. When she slipped into the small hole in the tiny alley, it was filled with small tents and clerics rushing everywhere.

“Claudine!” Belle called out to her amongst the various tents. She turned to find Belle waving to her beside a red tent. Trying to avoid stepping on the wounded on the ground, she reached Belle asking, “Belle! What happ–”

“Claudine!!” Belle shrieked. “What happened to your arm?! It’s bleeding so badly! Oh my goodness we must get it treated–”

“Belle!” Claudine yelled back. “Calm down. What happened while I was gone? The fire couldn’t have spread so fast!” She asked.

“Spread? From where?” Belle asked, puzzled. Claudine stared at her. “There was a fire… Near the mines… Then it spread… Here.. Right?” She stuttered.

“What?!” Belle answered, shocked. “There was a huge forest fire nearby! We had no idea how the fire became to big and spread around so fast such that Edelstein was already in flames before we could try putting it out!” Claudine stumbled back clumsily as belle caught her. “Whoa there, we’d better get that arm treated immediately!” She said before whistling to one of the bustling clerics nearby as she yelled, “We need a healer here! NOW!”

Immediately, one of the priests stepped up and treated Claudine’s arm. Belle lay her down as she kneeled beside her.

“Belle… What happened exactly…?” Claudine asked weakly, as she started to perspire madly.

“Well, Brighton is trying to escort all remaining citizens into the underground hideouts. Demon is scouting the mines to find the source of the fire because it looks as if it’s endless! And… Checky is missing…” Belle finished, looking down and clenching her fists. She heard Claudine sigh. “Where are the heroes when you need them…” She muttered before falling into a deep sleep.

—-

That same night, the hooded man stood on the edge of a cliff overlooking the peaceful city of Erev.

“Next up, Erev. I’m sure Aria would’ve loved it if I brought her hometown to her…” He chuckled before hopping down into the forest beneath him.

The thief moved swiftly amidst the trees, not a single rustle of leaves to be heard.

Nearby… A figure in a torn-up burnt bear suit watched closely. “I’ll find whoever burnt Edelstein… And make him pay…” Checky gritted his teeth, his sweaty fringe falling loosely over his forehead. He edged closer and closer towards Phantom, when he broke a twig. What great timing.

Phantom stopped dead in his tracks, cane raised for attack. “Come out and face me, coward. ” he hissed as he narrowed his eyes. Checky cursed under his breath as he slowly began to shift out of his hiding position… When another figure emerged from the bushes in front of him instead.

“Whoops, found me!” He laughed as he stepped out of the bush, leaves rustling around his torn-up robes.

“Eclipse…” Phantom grit his teeth even harder how, his grip tightening around his glowing Raven Horn Crimson Cane.

“Thought I was dead? HAH. WRONG!” He laughed maniacally to himself.

“What do you want?” Phantom interrupted his laughter, not one bit amused that he was still alive.

Eclipse stopped, his blood red eyes glaring straight at Phantom.

“Phantom. ” he started. “The black Mage and I have to sincerely thank you for helping us in the first half of our mission- eliminating Edelstein and weakening the resistance. We cannot thank you more, Phantom. ” he finished with a satisfying smile as he watched the thief’s face of horror turn to guilt… His glassy eyes dissipated as his bright purple irises shone once more under the moonlight.

He collapsed to his knees, dropping his billion-dollar cane onto the muddy grounds, realising what he had done. He was utterly speechless. Eclipse watched the pathetic thief writhe in regret as he crossed his arms, that wicked smile still plastered onto his face.

“You… You manipulated me…!” Phantom growled.

“Manipulated you?! Pfft what bullshit are you blabbering about? I just merely showed you the joy of working under the black Mage! You looked like you were enjoying yourself so much!” Eclipse sneered.

“Keep your crap to yourself. ” Phantom hissed back. Eclipse’s smile then turned into a frown.

“Looks like you don’t want to know what happened to Ariathen…” As he started to stroll away.

Upon hearing her name, Phantom perked up. “What?!”

Eclipse turned around, smirking yet again.

“She’s alive. ”

Phantom’s face showed nothing but shock, and a wave of relief washed over him…

“How?” he breathed.

“It’s easy once you become the apprentice of the Black Mage, Phantom. ” He replied as if it was so obvious. “You get revived and stuff and really strong magic… So yeah. ” Eclipse snapped his fingers as his Shining rod projected an image into the air.

It was Aria wrapped up in chains lying on the ground, unconscious.

“What have you done to her?” Phantom choked.

“Oh, simply put her in chains and tossed her into a cave, nothing much. ” Eclipse said casually, examining his rod as if it was the most fascinating thing in the world.

Phantom was silent once again.

“Release. Her. ” he said shakily.

“Huh. You think I’d release her so easily? You think this is a game?!” Eclipse stressed, as the projected image disintegrated into shards of dark energy. “Here’s the deal-” he started, pointing his rod at Phantom, “I’ll release her once you assassinate the current Empress Cygnus. Seems like pretty easy dirty work for a thief like you so I expect it to be done in 3 days.

Phantom stood there, paralysed.

“I-I can’t kill–” he started, before Eclipse cut him off, “– oh yes you can. You killed hundreds at Edelstein, why not one puny little girl? Besides, don’t you want your precious Ariaback?” He snickered. ” 3 days, Phantom. I will be back. ” before vanishing into a whirl of darkness, leaving the pathetic thief alone in the dark forests of Erev.

The Troubled Thief #2

Chapter 2

“Master, you’ve been in there for days. Why don’t you come out for a bit of fresh air?”

“…”

Gaston sighed. “May I come in?” He asked again for the fifth time.

There was no response.

“Then I’m coming in because I cannot afford for my master stay in there forever!” He opened the door and entered into the Master Thief’s room.

He was kneeling down by his king-sized bed, head buried deep into his arms. “Master…” Gaston started.

“I couldn’t save her….” He heard the thief mutter. “…again. ”

Gaston could hear muffled sobs in between and had never seen his master in such a devastated state before, aside from the time when Aria first died, centuries ago. He wanted to do something, but he knew nothing would work. He knew the thief could never be healed from his internal wounds.

Not anymore.

“Master… Aria’s world is not gone yet! You can still do something. You’re the closest to Luminous in the Heroes, you can convince him to return to the Heroes! She’s now in a better place…” Gaston tried to comfort his master…. Until Phantom’s head jerked up from the bed.

“That’s it…!” He cried. “I-I could bring the world that Aria desired to her!”

Gaston cringed his brows in confusion. “Master…?” He started, but the thief had already gotten up to get his hat. “Erm, what are you going to do now, master?” Gaston questioned suspiciously as he carefully watched the thief fumble with his hat.

“Simple, I’ll just destroy everything, so I can bring this world she so desired to her! I will rid it of evil and bring it to her instead, why, I’m such a genius!” He then swifted out of the room in a hurry and Gaston was left standing there, wide-eyed and mouth gaping open.

There were only a few times where Gaston was left speechless, and this was one of the times.

—-

On the busy streets of Ariant, all the women wore elaborate silk clothes, their kids running about along the peddlers, and the men working their asses off at their stalls. It was just another regular, sunny day at Ariant…

When suddenly, there was at outburst at one of the silk stalls. There was a huge crowd surrounding the now broken down stall, as a woman screamed and held her baby close to her chest. It started to wail loudly as she tried desperately to hush it. Next to her was a man sprawled on the floor, lying in a puddle of bright, red blood…

“The society doesn’t need people like you who cheat on others… ” a man stood there, his cane, now a dagger, dripping with dark, red blood.

“Please…” The woman pleaded. “Spare us! My baby–” she wailed, however- with a single swipe of his dagger, she dropped to the ground lifelessly, as blood poured out onto the screaming baby wrapped in expensive silk.

The crowd gathered around the scene were dead silent, and nobody dared to move. “This world needs to be rid of those who threaten its peace and serenity! Anyone who causes trouble shall be eliminated immediately, and punished severely… To result in the perfect, ideal world everyone would have dreamed of!” The thief declared out to the crowd, as he dropped his dagger right into the little ball of silk on the ground, silencing it forever.

“I am doing justice for the society, and for the world to make it the ideal place! Anyone who goes against nature’s will will be eliminated by me. Who’s with me?” The hooded man asked delightfully. The entire crowd remained silent, not daring to move a muscle, lest he kills someone again.

“Nobody? Fine. ” he said again, before shrugging and vanishing in a flurry of cards, leaving the bloody scene for the cops to clear up.

—-

“Queen Mercedes! Have you heard what has happened in Ariant recently?” Danika approached her Queen while she was sitting by the tree, embracing the nature around her. “Yes…” She replied mournfully after a while.

“It seems like this man claims to serve justice to the world and make it a perfect, ideal place to live in! He thinks he’s the savior of Maple World and all that, but I think it’s just a bunch of crap. ” Danika remarked angrily, pouting as she took a seat beside the the Queen.

“I agree… Where are Phantom and Luminous when you need them…” Mercedes sighed, plucking a few strings of her harp here and there. “Is it my job to investigate again?” She asked tiredly. Danika nodded, as she knew herself that she couldn’t do anything about it.

“If only Freud were here…” The Queen sighed once again, before getting off her spot. Danika hopped off and followed her as well, wishing that she could do something.

Somewhere far away in Edelstein…

“ARGHGG!” A man screamed as he was shoved violently against the wall, knocking his head hard. “Didn’t you know extortion is wrong, young man?” That same hooded man mocked, spinning his cane playfully. The delinquent crouched at the spot, shivering nervously with sweat pouring down his neck.

“And for that, your punishment is…” He then raised his cane into that same dagger right above his body, preparing to strike, when a voice called out, “WAIT!” The thief abruptly turned his head, facing the entrance of the alley where a young woman clad in black stood.

“I’ve finally found you. I’ve heard you’re the man who’s been causing a lot of trouble around Edelstein lately… Reveal yourself!” She shouted.

He laughed. “Trouble? It’s called Justice, Miss Claudine!” He replied, as she cringed when he mentioned her name out loud. “The world lacks justice, and I’m here to prove it!” He smiled sadistically.

“Killing people as punishment is NOT serving justice! You’re just adding more to the problems we already face! ” she yelled back.

“Utter nonsense. ” he spat. “If you’re talking about the problem of the Black Mage, consider me a savior! I do not work with that sack of shit, and never will. My ultimate goal is to reach him, and to eliminate him. ”

“But what you’re doing right now is not the right kind of justice people deserve. Sure, they need to be punished, but not in this disgusting, gruesome way. ” Claudine answered, emphasising each adjective as she spat at the ground in disgust.

“You just disgust me. ” she finished.

The man frowned. “I’d hate to have to do this to you, but…” In a matter of seconds, fire filled in the alley and burned all the rubbish and litter around, as it spread rapidly. Claudine screamed as she sustained a burn on her arm.

She stumbled out of the alley, only to find the fire spreading to the trees, and soon onwards towards the houses of Edelstein. Her arm stinging, she tried to get up in the midst of the fire.

She got up unsteadily, clutching her bloodied arm and raced to the Resistance hideout. Upon arrival, she found out that she was too late.

The troubled Thief #1

===Chapter 1=================

“Oh Freud, if only you were here too…” The master Thief sipped on his cup of tea on the deck of the magnificent Lumiere. “I’m really glad that I’m here today with you, Phantom. ” Aria sat across him, looking slightly uncomfortable. “But it just doesn’t feel right, I feel as if I’m going against nature…” She looked down uncomfortably.

“Oh, you wouldn’t have to worry! The Tree Of Life gave me permission and one of it’s seeds to bring you back here, Empress!” Phantom reassured her.
“And you keep forgetting, I’m not the empress anymore!” She reminded him.

“Oh dear. I apologise!” Both of them then remained silent for the next few minutes…

Suddenly, there was an abrupt jerk of the ship and their tea spilt over, leaking all over the expensive elaborate red carpet. “Goodness, is Renault drunk?!” Phantom cursed as he noisily got out of his seat. “Aria, stay here while I have a little chat with Renault. ” he told her before entering the ship. She nodded and waited patiently, looking at the lovely full moon that night.

Phantom briskly walked through the corridors, mumbling, “Of all nights, why tonight… Just when I get to see Aria for supper…” Then there was another sudden jerk, this time, it was much stronger, he lost his balance and fell to the wall, managing to lean onto it. He adjusted his Raven Persona hat, cursing, “RENAULT!” Before taking off at an even faster pace. However, the moment he reached the door to the cockpit, the whole ship blacked out. Phantom tried to turn the knob of the metal door, but It would not budge.

“Renault? Are you in there?!” Phantom yelled from outside, raging mad. He then vigorously tried to turn the knob, and even heaved against it a few times. It just would not budge. He found it queer as to why the captain would lock himself in the cockpit.

“Renault…?” After a few more heaves, Phantom gave up and decided to walk back to the deck, clearly frustrated. While walking along the corridors, he called out, “Gaston! Can you fix the blackout please?”

There was no response.

“Funny,” he thought. “Gaston’s hearing was always very sharp. Perhaps he’s finally growing old. ” Phantom then continued to call out the old man’s name, but still no response.

The Lumiere jerked so hard this time, the whole ship leaned backwards which abruptly threw phantom off his heels and plummeting backwards. He quickly grabbed hold of the carpet, when he heard a piercing scream from outside the ship.

Aria.

“Aria!!” He yelled, as he pulled himself up the leaning ship, dashing through the corridors. Upon reaching the entrance, not only did he find his whole crew bound in chains with a black wings soldier guarding them, he found a very familiar face standing on the edge of the ship, pointing a weapon at Aria.

“L-Luminous…!?” Phantom stammered, trying to grasp a hold of the situation. Wait, it wasn’t the luminous he knew. He had black hair with red tips, and instead of the usual white robe he always wore, it was tainted with black and red rims. The ends of shining rod he was holding was glowing bright red, and to finish it off, he had a wicked smile on his face.

“Well, well! If it isn’t Phantom!” The dark haired man announced rather loudly. Phantom gritted his teeth, hissing, “Let her go. Who are you?!”

“Who am I?! Well who the hell do you think I look like? Dressed in these stupid robes and charms everywhere. Disgusting. ” he spat.

“So you really are luminous?” Phantom replied slowly, processing the information. “Well, YES. Actually, the name’s Eclipse. I work for the Black Mage, and him only. ” he smirked triumphly, still not releasing his hardened grip on Aria.

“What happened to Luminous?” Phantom then asked carefully, with a million questions whirling through his head, quite stunned at the situation at hand. Eclipse laughed a big, hearty, laughed. In fact, he laughed so hard he started tearing. Phantom, his chained-up crew and even Aria stared at him in disgust.

“That chicken! Guess what? After I awakened from the curse- or should I say ‘we’ awakened, Luminous became such a pimp when I killed his ‘precious’ little girl, er- what’s her name again- ah! Lania. Yes, well, after considering my offer, he decided to join MY side. And well, he’s the next new commander of the Black Mage! Since then, he’s been given assloads of never-ending supply of power from him! He’s finally seen the light, or should I say- the dark! Oh, The benefits of working under the Black Mage…” He paused to let out a dramatic sigh, before continuing, “It allows me to do wonderful things. Like what, for example? This. ” he pulled his staff closer to Aria’s neck. She shrieked, not taking her eyes off the staff.

“STOP!” Phantom yelled in a hurry. “Lumin- Eclipse! Please, let her go! She’s not involved in this!” He pleaded. “Pleas won’t work, you petty thief. As long as she’s related to you some way or another, I. Will. KILL. her. I–”

“LUMINOUS! Why are you doing this?!” Phantom cried. “Are you REALLY that helpless that you have to resort to this kind of dirty work–”

“SHUT UP, pretty boy! I don’t need your stupid ‘heroic’ remarks on my choices, I do what I want!” With that, he yelled, “NOW!” The Black Wings guarding the crew then sprang to action by hurrying over to hold Phantom down, while one of them raised his spear and pierced Marionette’s arm. She screamed in pain as blood spluttered everywhere on the deck.

Upon seeing the guards approach him, he swiftly whipped out his cane and lashed a hoard of cards at them, yelling ‘Mille Cartes!’ Just ask Phantom turned to Eclipse, Eclipse smirked evilly before shoving Aria right off the deck. She screamed, as Phantom swifted towards the edge trying to grab her hand, but instead, Eclipse roared “Moonlight Spear!” A black hole appeared underneath Phantom and out lashed about 5 sharp, deadly chains which quickly held him down.

“ARIAAA!!” Phantom cried, as he watched her fall, further and further down, till she completely disappeared into the mist…. He suddenly stopped struggling, and all was still.

“You see now? You cannot win me. Joining the Black Mage has so many benefits, I just don’t see why you ‘heroes’ must have your own logic or morals to go against it, I just don’t understand!” He began to walk around Phantom, holding his shining rod over his shoulder and tapping it lightly.

“You all were already fighting a losing battle. ” he continued, as phantom looked down, his blonde, messy hair covering his purple irises.

“Luminous. ”

Eclipse stopped abruptly, narrowing his eyes at phantom, who looked pretty much tired, exhausted, and defeated. There was a brief pause, before Phantom looked up, his pupils filled with hate, hate, and more hate. He murmured a quick ‘haste’ and swiftly untangled himself out of the death chains, and momentarily disappeared, before appearing again right next to the guards, and in split seconds, they were brutally slashed with cards. He disappeared yet again and Eclipse began to panic.

He kept appearing and disappearing at different parts of the deck, taking advantage of it’s huge size. Eclipse backed away, beginning to break a sweat. “Show yourself, you cowardly theif!” He yelled, fear creeping up in his voice. In a split second, Phantom appeared right in front of him, his cane raised and transformed into a dagger. At that moment, Eclipse could see his pupils filled with nothing but despair and resentment.

For the first time ever, he felt fear from just his eyes alone, before getting stabbed at his side and then aggressively pulled out, as he coughed out blood and fell to his death, his mouth still plastered with that crooked smile of his.

Phantom stood by the very edge of the Lumiere, looking up the beauty of the full moon right in front of him. His hand still grasped tightly on the dagger, with dark, red blood dripping from the tip and staining the white tablecloth of the table where he and Aria had tea…

Phantom intro

“Renault! Land the Lumeire here!” He shouted desperately across the deck. “But sir, there’s no suitable space to land it, there’s only trees, and the nearest landing site is about 20km away!” He yelled back from the wheel.

Gritting his teeth, Phantom shouted back “never mind then! Make it stationary now, I’m going to try something risky, I have no choice…” “What?! Don’t tell me–” Renault called out, but the there was no response. Phantom had hopped off the Lumiere which was thousands of metres up in the sky.

As he plummeted down into the forests of Erev, he whispered, “I hate this skill but I have no choice… Final Feint!” The moment he crashed onto the ground, his body dissipated into a thousand hoards of cards everywhere. The cards then reformed into himself back again.

He had no time to lose. He tossed he heavy hat aside and dashed desperately through the woods, sharp branches and twigs scratching his pale skin and tearing his expensive clothes.

Some distance away, a short man in a huge, black cloak laughed maniacally to himself. “My job here is done. ” he chuckled, before whirling off in a cloud of mist. “Lotus…!” Shinsoo weakly called out. She sighed heavily. Suddenly, a figure emerged from the bushes, panting heavily and sweating madly.

“Phantom… Please… Keep the Skaia safe…” Shinsoo coughed out, eyes half closed. At the sight of the woman laying in Shinsoo’s wings, he widened his purple eyes in horror. “Aria…” He choked out. Drops of rain started falling through the hole in the dome, where the moonlight brightly shone through.

Phantom tiredly collapsed to his knees, looking up at the moon. “I will definitely do justice for Aria, and you will pay for what you have done, Black Mage…!!”

–100 years later–

At the Erev conference hall, a long, brown-haired woman stood in the middle, holding a shining jewel in her palm. “This is the Skaia jewel! It glows in my hands, but not the Empress’s! This shows I am the rightful Empress of Erev!” She announced proudly. The audience gasped, and started whispering. At the back, Emrpess Cygnus, Neinhart her adviser, and her Knights all looked hopeless. She looked as if she was about to burst into tears.

“Hold up!” A voice called out. The whole audience fell silent, trying to look around for who this intruder was. The man continued, “I can point out a few flaws as to why the Jewel won’t glow in the Empress’s hand. Firstly, the first Empress Aria didnt have any children, so the title was given to her closest next-of-kin, her niece. Secondly, the Empress is still a child and has a weak body, so it’s understandable that her body cannot fully absorb the jewel’s power. ”

The woman started to panic as she slowly backed away, “how would you know?! What evidence do you have?!” She shrieked. The man snickered, before giving a flashy appearance of showers of cards right in the middle of the conference. He pulled down his hood to reveal himself. “Phantom!” Mercedes and Athena yelled from the audience.

Phantom smiled, before holding out his cane and casting cane booster and hyper body. “It’s all over. ” he chuckled lightly, “Hurricane. ” his cane soon transformed into a bow and huge, green wings sprouted from it as the middle of the wings began to shoot a hurricane of arrows at the woman.

She gave an evil laugh as she also revealed herself. A shroud of black smoke shrouded her appearance, before reappearing again in revealing clothes, a green eye shadow mark on her right eye. She had a whole army of skeletons behind her as she cackled away. “Muahaha, so you’ve caught me, Phantom. But I will be back, you will see!” And then, she disappeared into a shroud of mist together with her army of skeletons.

Phantom sighed in relief, and the crowd began to cheer. He slowly steeped up the red carpet steps of the conference hall towards the young Empress Cygness. He gazed at her longingly, thinking, “oh, how much you resemble her…” He smiled to himself, before disappearing in a flurry of cards.

The Empress looked shocked at what just happened, as she felt something in her fists. She opened it, it was the real Skaia! She looked up towards the sky, before smiling back at Phantom, who was now back on the deck of his ship, smirking to himself.

“The world you always dreamed of won’t disappear, Aria…”

Demon Slayer intro

“What?!” He yelled across the meeting room, his voice echoing across the fallen pillars of the Temple Of Time. “Go on, go save your pathetic *family* of yours, useless demon. ” Arkyrium cackled evily. Without further ado, Demon Slayer spread his wings and whizzed out of the meeting room. “Mother… Damien… Please, be safe!” He whispered to himself as he flew past the corrupted corridors of theTemple Of Time.

However, when the Demon arrived at Leafre, the whole town was burning down in flames. People and Halfringers were scattered everywhere, screaming for help. Houses were in flames, dead bodies and pools of blood strewn everywhere. He flew across the town, where he found his home in flames. He widened his blood-red eyes in horror at the sight of his burning home.

He landed down at the site, as he called out, “Mother! Damien!” He searched all around the house, inside the ruins of the burning house, and came out only with a locket inside. He opened it to find a photo of his mother and little brother in it, smiling happily. He clenched his fists, and hid the locket in his coat. “Tsk… BLACK MAGE!!” He yelled, enraged.

Back at the Temple Of Time, his faithful assistant, Mastemia, was waiting anxiously for him. “Master… You look… Different. ” she trembled at his presence. “I am no different than before. Tell me, Mastemia. Do you swear upon your loyalty to me?” He said. “E-eh?” Surprised at the sudden question. “W-well…” She stammered, “I’ve been serving you for a very long time, and I’m very thankful since the day you saved me so-” “Answer me!” He interrupted sternly. “Y-Yes! I swear my loyalty to you, master!” She shrieked back. “Good. Here,” he reached an envelope from his pocket and handed it to her. “Pass this letter to the heroes. Tell them I am off to face the Black Mage for what he has done. I can serve him no longer. ” “you’re betraying the Black Mage?” She asked timidly, slightly shocked. “Yes. I swear to avenge my family, for he has broken his promise. Now I trust you to deliver this letter safely to the heroes, Mastemia. ” “Yes master, I will! You can trust me!” She smiled, before teleporting away.

Demon Slayer then continued on to the doors of the Black Mage’s throne, before he was confronted by Arkyrium. “Going somewhere, Demon Slayer?” He laughed maniacally. “Move aside, Arkyrium. I can no longer serve the Black Mage. ” he replied simply. “I’ll never let you fight him in a million years, you weakling! You may be his right hand man, but you’d never stand up to him, you pitiful demon! And now you’re betraying him just because he destroyed your Stupid family! Hah!” He cackled, before signalling to his two giant pet snakes next to him.

They hissed , before lunging straight at Demon Slayer at lightning speed. He swiftly dodged it with ease, pulling out his Demon Scepter and swinging it at them. “Infernal Concussion!” He yelled, as he stuck his Scepter into the ground, giant balls of demonic energy rose from the ground and tossed both snakes high into the air, as massive spikes struck out of the energy balls, piercing the snakes all over.

The old man screamed, as his precious snakes, now all torn up with blood everywhere, lay motionless on the ground. “I’m not done yet!” He yelled, before summoning two orbs beside him, and two new snakes reappeared beside him, hissing menacingly. Before Demon Slayer could cast another skill, the doors behind Arkyrium slowly creaked opened, as if trying to welcome him in. He paused his attack, and frowned. “It looks like… The Black Mage wants to see you after all. ” he snickered. “Very well then. The black Mage won’t spare any mercy to you, whether you’re his right hand man or not! ” he called after Demon Slayer as he slowly walked in, the doors slamming shut behind him.
