“STOP!!” The boy screamed, his hands and feet flailing wildly as a man in his mid-thirties struggled to wrestle him down on a blood-stained bed. “It won’t hurt a bit, so shut up and stay still, boy!” He grit his teeth, one hand holding the boy’s head down, the other holding up a syringe with a strange red liquid. “Please, daddy, let go! It hurts!” He pleaded, fresh tears streaming down his face, helpless against his father’s lethal grip. “It will all be over soon…” The man mused, with one swift motion of his hand, jabbed the syringe right into the screaming child’s arm, before everything went black.

Zephyr Sinclair woke up with a start, sweat trickling down his neck and forehead, somewhat panting. Remembering his dream vividly, he shook his head and got out of bed, his joints cracking slightly as he shuffled to the bathroom. He had a rough night and probably slept like a log, as he found his hair sprouting out in all directions when he looked at himself in the mirror. He rinsed his face and put on his eyepatch on his left eye. Sighing as he ruffled his jet black hair, a few locks of hair falling perfectly over his left eye, covering the eyepatch.
He tried to recall what happened the night before, but all words escaped his mouth as all he could remember was the sound of glass breaking, and the screeching of a car jamming the brakes.
The memory made him shudder, deciding not to attempt to remember it. He had a bad night, and a bad dream, all he wanted was some good ol’ coffee and bread at the cafe down the street, but his plans were soon thrown down the drain as his phone started to vibrate furiously, and realising that he had an important matter to attend to that day.
His best friend’s funeral.
He then remembered it all.
That night, he and his best friend, Kaius, were at a pub, celebrating their graduation from their High school. He had never been to a pub before, he was afraid it might trigger it, but he thought, ah, it was just one night, what could possibly go wrong?
Everything went wrong.
They had finished around 4 bottles of beer and 2 bottles of wine, they even participated in a vodka drinking contest, and danced and partied like there was no tomorrow till the wee hours of the morning. Both of them had become so drunk, they didn’t even know what was happening around them.
Soon, they had to go home. The good news was, none of them could drive, so they decided to hitch a ride on one of their friend’s carriage that they just met at the pub. However, the carriage was jammed with 8 people, and it was a small one. And since they were so drunk, they made such a ruckus in the carriage that they all threw the both of them out onto the streets, before speeding off.
They had no idea where they were. Everything was in a huge blur, and the world seemed to spin around them. “W-where are we…” Zephyr stammered, as a chill ran down his spine. They happened to be stranded on a deserted street, and there was absolutely no one around. “I… I know the way home!! Follow meh!!” Kaius hiccuped, as he started to stumble towards a lamp post. He knocked into a pole, slightly puzzled, before changing directions. “Oops, my bad. ” he gave a drunk laugh, as he turned to the road and walked towards it.
Zephyr blindly followed, realising that Kaius was also waving around an empty bottle of vodka for no reason. “Dude… Get on the pavement…” Zephyr warned him, but Kaius just stood there right in the middle, and held out his hands. “For what?! Thish place is deserted!” And started doing a little dance right there, which included wildly waving his hands about and jumping here and there.
“Ka–” Zephyr started, before a speck of light at the corner of his eye caught his attention. He slowly turned his head, as the lights grew bigger, and brighter. “Oh shi– Kaius!!” Zephyr yelled out to the drunk boy, but he continued prancing around the road without a care in the world. Just as Zephyr was about to grab Kaius’s hand to pull in him, there was a sharp pain in his left eye, causing him to wince and clutch it in pain.
His left eye was stinging, as he fell to his knees and desperately hoped for the pain to go away.
It got worse.
The pain transferred to his gut as he felt as if it was being punched, and twisted in a directions. He fell to the ground with a thud, his head throbbing, and perspiring madly. “Dude, what the hell is goin on?” Kaius saw him writhing in pain on the pavement, one hand clutching his eye, the other around his gut. He felt as if his whole body was on fire, the pain was excruciating.
Kaius was the only one whom he trusted with his secret. Getting worried, he started towards Zephyr, before stopping abruptly- “Stop! S-Stay away…” He grit his teeth, the pain tearing through every muscle of his body. “Leave… Now…” Zephyr choked, tears rolling down his cheeks. Feeling sick, he threw up into the drain beside him, all the alcohol literally going down the drain.
“Oh god, I shouldn’t have–” Kaius started as he put his hands to his forehead. “Kaius, look out!” Zephyr yelled, as if on cue, the carriage completely rammed at him, flinging him 20 metres into the air, being thrown around like a rag doll, before landing down on the pavement with a huge thud, lifeless.
As his vision started to clear up, he realised that it was the same carriage they tried to hitch a ride back on mere minutes ago, the driver sat there, eyes wide open and mouth hanging down. “I… I felt bad…” He started, his mouth trembling. “S-so I came back to help you two, b-but…” He stopped there.
Ignoring the searing pain, Zephyr got up, and ran towards Kaius with as much remaining energy he could muster, and knelt down as he saw the disgusting state his best friend was in. That vodka bottle was still gripped firmly by his lifeless arm. Anger and despair overcame Zephyr, as he was reminded of the scene he created years ago, when his family was still alive.
He then lost control of all his limbs, as he tore the eyepatch off, both eyes glowing bright crimson red. The
tips of his hair glowed bright red as well, as if they were burning with fire.
Grabbing the vodka bottle from the dead boy’s hand, he charged towards the sports car at lightning speed, and before the driver could even make out what was attacking him, Zephyr lifted his arm, and smashed the bottle right on his head, killing him instantly, leaving a bloody head behind.
Dropping the remnants of the smashed bottle, Zephyr widened his eyes, as he saw both his hands, smeared with his friend’s blood. Fear gripped him tightly, as if someone was strangling him. He slowly backed away, his right eye returning to its normal colour of emerald green, and his hair returning to its usual black colour. Using his sleeve to wipe his tears which were now welling up in his eyes, he ran away, and never looked back.

This is the huge town of Sebriave, where the place is brimming with wizards, alchemists, knights and scholars. Horse carriages roamed around the lovely city, as merchants sitting by the streets sold mysterious liquids to mysterious people. The palace stood right at the top of Mount St Tierra, where the corrupted King and Queen ruled the city. Of course, there were academies and schools of all sorts, teaching talented youths on the use of magic, sorcery, and fighting, to defend their city.
It was peaceful, yet- on the outskirts of Sebriave, there lay unexplored forests, swamps and many, many, monsters, such as goblins, elves, hounds, etcetera.
Zephyr stood there holding his coffee mug, as regret washed over him and wishing that time could rewind itself. Before he knew it, he started sobbing for the 6th time since his best friend’s death, blaming it all on that stupid demon inside of him. He felt like ripping out that red crystal inside of him and smashing it to pieces, but alas, if that were really possible, he’d be dead by now.
Wiping his face once more, he realised there was no point of shedding anymore tears. What’s gone, is gone. Kaius isn’t coming back.
That day, the funeral was held for both Kaius Remus, and the driver, whom he thought was his ‘friend’. Apparently his name was Ryker. In the news, it was said that Kaius was drunk on the streets, and Ryker was speeding, so he knocked Kaius down, killing him instantly, and the impact caused Ryker’s head to smash against the window of the carriage, resulting in his head injury. In actual fact, nobody really knew how they died. It was a speculation, and there was not much to investigate. After all, the street wasdeserted.
Zephyr recognised his classmates and teachers, some sobbing, others simply staring at the ground lifelessly.
Kaius used to be the teachers’ nightmare, causing trouble to them and his peers. He was the absolute troublemaker in the school, and just loves to go wild. He would flunk his grades the whole year, and will miraculously pass his end year exams just to advance on to the next grade, and it was Zephyr’s job to mild him down.
On the other hand, Zephyr was the smartass of the class, topping the class in all ways. However, there was just one flaw about him- he had anger management problems, which causes him to engage into fights very often, and it was Kaius’s turn to calm him down.
Together, the both of them became the best of friends despite their differences, and promised to stay as best friends forever. But now that Kaius was dead, Zephyr realised how childish it sounded, and that nothing lasts forever. Not love, not friendship, nothing. This incident hit him hard in the gut, bringing him back to reality.
He was alone, again.

“Have you heard the rumours? People with red eyes are *cursed!* They’re DEMONS! You’re no better!” The tallest kid of the gang then proceeded to pick up a pebble and threw it at Zephyr, hitting him right on the forehead, as it started to bleed. The rest of the gang started laughing evilly as they continued hauling stones at the boy, mocking and teasing him.
“I-I’m not a demon…” He started, but the sound of their laughter drowned his voice out… Which fuelled to the rage that boiled inside his veins, every second that passed, he got angrier, and angrier, and angrier… “Whatchu gonna do now, DEMON?!” The leader continued as his boys kept on laughing like there was no tomorrow.
Curling up his fists tightly into a ball, he grit his teeth and hissed, “I. Am. *NOT*. A demon. ” Wiping away his tears of laughter, the leader managed to pause his laughter for a second- “show me. ” “you got it, punk. And you’d better not regret your decision…” Zephyr slowly said as he walked towards the leader, still smirking and standing tall.
Before he knew it, WHAM! Zephyr’s fist launched straight into the kid’s eye, causing him to fly backwards at great speed, before his head slammed into a lamp post nearby, as he lay motionless against it. The other kids’ mouths all hung open in fear and in shock- staring at their leader who just got punched to a pulp. After which, one started to edge away slowly, before the rest followed after him and ran away, screaming, “Demon!! He’s really a demon!”
Zephyr stood there, his fist still stained with his enemy’s blood. He smiled triumphly before walking away.

“*Zephyr!*” This is the 6th school you’ve transferred to, and you /promised/ not to cause anymore trouble! What happened now?” Ms Tally chided the child as she set the table for lunch. “They called me a demon!–”
“That’s been the same excuse you’ve been giving me for the past 5 schools! You’ve been given a stern warning from the school– you’re lucky that boy didn’t take any damage to his brain, or he’d be /dead/ now!”
She sat down, sighed and rubbed her temples. “Why can’t you stop? One day, you’re really going to end up killing someone!” Zephyr looked down at his lunch- a bunch of vegetables, mashed potatoes and a tiny slab of goblin meat mixed with beer sauce. “I can’t help it…” He mumbled, playing with his food. “I really /am/ a demon…” He started tearing again.
“Oh, Zephyr… ” Ms Tally shifted over next to him, giving him a huge bear hug. “I’ll always be there for you, darling… Even when I’m gone, I’ll still be watching over you…” He smiled slightly, as he snuggled deeper into the old woman’s arms.
=====CHAPTER 1 END. =====
Note: Hello fronds… Yes, shoot me for starting another Fic without finishing the previous one… But hey, nothing can stop inspiration from flowing, right?
WRONG. Writer’s block can.
But meh, school’s starting in a few weeks and I can already FEEL the stress crawling in. /m\
Ah like I said, I definitely WILL be finishing my troubled thief Fic, and hopefully this one too! (I can’t guarantee though lol) it all depends on how much inspiration I have, and like I said before, fanfic writing is just a hobby!
Like they say, you must start a story with the ending in mind.
Well, I don’t really follow that well but, heck care I write whatever I wanna write
And again, thanks to all readers out there who actually don’t mind my laziness and terrible updates! Stay awesome ;D
